The Snow Dance

As promised and it works!!

Turkey Day

Well, nothing quite like Thanksgiving at 7,000 ft with Nepalese art and Muslim calls to prayer in the background. Truly... unique. I am thankful though, thankful for the snow that keeps extremists from placing explosives in the road. I created a snow dance (I will post it's intricate movements at a later time), and Joe was nice enough to perform it three days ago. Two days ago it began to really snow for the first time this winter. It was a long sigh of relief for everyone. I ate too damn much really though. One of the few things I have been able to keep up this past year is a restrictive diet while I'm not on patrol and an intense work-out regime. These last two weeks have been hell on me though. We just passed the thirty day threshold though so hopefuly my morale will improve and I can get back on track.

A first...

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time now. I've noticed that I began reading more and more blogs and the extent of may participation has been adding them to my facebook profile. I wish to enjoy in what the blogging community seems to enjoy; community and discussion. As of yet I can't get that from facebook.

Also I read a lot and enjoy politics, and the two do not mix well in discussion at my current location and occupation. I hope to improve my awareness and understanding through this site and hope that my understanding leads to others making similar decisions.

The title of my blog comes from a Rumi quote, “You were born with wings. Why prefer to crawl through life?” On the last part of twelve month "trip" to Afghanistan this quote applies to many elements of my life at the moment, but directly the hope that people, civilization, can continue to strive for what's best for us and not continue the mistakes I feel I see everywhere. The other quote I was looking at, depressingly (most likely again because of my current situation), was from Orwell's 1984, "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength." It may be my current mindset, but occassionally I don't know if people struggle to find truth or accept the first thing they hear...

I will probably have to come back and edit this with some past posts I had scribbled down, but never published.
